Datuk Phang Ah Tong
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Phang was appointed the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MIDA in 2014 with his primary responsibilities revolving around investment promotion and the development of the manufacturing and services sectors in Malaysia.
His career path in MIDA began in 1981, when he joined as an Economist. Throughout his years in MIDA, he has been actively involved in promoting both foreign direct and domestic investment in Malaysia, including the formulation of the 1st Industrial Master Plan in 1986.
Phang was posted to MIDA London as an Assistant Trade Commissioner and also served as the Director of MIDA New York, whereby his responsibility was to promote UK and US investments into Malaysia. Upon his return to MIDA headquarters, he was appointed the Director of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), overseeing the promotion of global FDI into Malaysia.
Phang is also the chairman of the Technical Committee on Expatriate Posts, committee member of the National Committee on Investment (NCI), Committee for Disbursement and Coordination of Grant as well as the board member of the Malaysian Automotive Industry.
Phang graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor Degree in Economics.
